FortiGate end of support and upgrade checker
If a FortiGate is on an end-of-support list, the first question is whether you actually need to do anything. Fortinet tracks three hardware lifecycle dates, and the answer depends on which one your model has reached, what FortiOS it can run and where the device sits in your network.
Check the model below for its lifecycle position, current replacement and any deadline worth acting on.
The FortiGate lifecycle, in order
Fortinet uses three main dates for the hardware lifecycle. They answer different questions.
End of Order
Can I still buy this model new?
End of Order is the last date the product can be ordered from Fortinet. The model may stop being sold years before support ends.
Under Fortinet's standard hardware lifecycle policy, End of Support generally follows 60 months later.
Last Service Extension
Can I still extend the support I already have?
The final date Fortinet will accept an extension of an eligible existing support or security-service contract. It falls 12 months before End of Support.
Once this date passes, an existing contract cannot be extended for the model.
End of Support
Does Fortinet still support the hardware?
The final hardware lifecycle milestone. After End of Support, Fortinet is under no obligation to provide support services for the product.
For a production firewall, reaching this point changes both the security and operational risk.
separate lifecycle
A FortiGate can still be within its hardware support life but unable to run a newer FortiOS branch. Fortinet lists the 100E, 101E and 100EF with FortiOS 7.2 as their final supported branch.
FortiOS 7.2 reaches standard End of Support on 30 September 2026. Extended support to 31 March 2028 applies only to eligible devices covered by FortiCare Elite.
What changes after end of support
What support options disappear, and when
Different support options close at different points. Not all of them at End of Support.
How much does that matter? It depends where the firewall sits.
Pick the deployment closest to yours.
Security
After hardware End of Support, there is no longer a supported remediation path through Fortinet for the device.
Hardware replacement
If the unit fails, there is no supported hardware-replacement entitlement to rely on. A normal RMA becomes an unplanned procurement and migration exercise.
Recovery
A configuration backup only helps if compatible hardware is available to restore it onto.
Plan ahead. The security and outage consequences are both material.
The lifecycle date is the same for every device. The consequence is not.
What should you do with the device?
There are four sensible outcomes. The checker points to the one that fits the model's current lifecycle position.

Each card above is a replacement family, not a one-to-one mapping: a 60E maps to the 70G and a 61E to the 71G, both inside the 70G family. The checker and the individual model pages give the exact target for a specific device, which also depends on the interfaces, performance and services in use. Fortinet publishes further models in the range, including the 71G, 91G, 121G, 200G, 201G, 700G and 701G.

Check the whole fleet
Most organisations do not have one firewall. They have a list of models across branches, offices, warehouses and remote sites. Paste the list here. The checker will identify the FortiGate models, ignore serial numbers and site names, and sort the estate by the next lifecycle event.
2 GB FortiGate?
Fortinet has removed or restricted a number of proxy-related features on 2 GB models in newer FortiOS releases. The affected models and features vary by FortiOS branch, so the current Fortinet release notes should be checked before an upgrade. This is particularly relevant to older 60E, 80E and 90E environments.

Common questions
Is FortiGate EOL the same as End of Support?
Not exactly. EOL is often used loosely for the overall retirement of a product. Fortinet separates the hardware lifecycle into End of Order, Last Service Extension Date and End of Support. This checker uses Fortinet's individual dates.
What is FortiGate End of Support?
It is the final hardware lifecycle milestone. After this date Fortinet is under no obligation to provide support services for the product.
What is the Last Service Extension Date?
It is the final date Fortinet will accept an extension of an eligible existing support or security-service contract for the model.
Fortinet sets it 12 months before End of Support.
My FortiGate is already past End of Support. How urgent is it?
It depends on the deployment.
A production firewall terminating internet or VPN traffic, or carrying a site with no spare, deserves prompt attention. A lab unit, spare or device behind another control may simply need to be recorded and scheduled for replacement.
Can I buy more support instead of replacing the firewall?
Only where an eligible existing contract can still be extended and the Last Service Extension Date has not passed.
After LSED, Fortinet will not accept an extension for the model.
What is happening to FortiOS 7.2?
FortiOS 7.2 reaches standard End of Support on 30 September 2026.
Fortinet's extended support runs to 31 March 2028 for eligible devices covered by FortiCare Elite. Essential and Premium entitlements do not receive that extended period.
Hardware compatibility is separate: some older FortiGates cannot move beyond FortiOS 7.2.
What is Fortinet TradeUp?
TradeUp is Fortinet's program for moving eligible existing hardware to a current replacement.
Depending on the device, replacement path and current program terms, it can provide discounted replacement hardware and allow eligible remaining services to transfer.
TradeUp eligibility is not determined by the lifecycle date alone. We confirm it against the serial and current Fortinet program.
What is FortiConverter?
FortiConverter helps convert an existing FortiGate configuration for a replacement FortiGate.
Fortinet currently provides a free opt-in FortiGate-to-FortiGate conversion licence for eligible target devices that are not already entitled. Specialised customisations and advanced configuration work are excluded from the complimentary service.
My FortiGate is still supported. Should I replace it?
Not automatically.
If the hardware remains supported, there is no material FortiOS constraint and the deployment is not creating an operational risk, the right answer may simply be to record the dates and leave it alone.
